![]() ![]() Palette is Decoart Americana White Flashtone Burnt Sienna Dark Chocolate Black Payne’s Gray Berry Red Honey Brown Lemon Yellow Baby Pink Royal Fuchsia Winter Blue Desert Turquoise Antique Gold Please sand seal and sand the piece of wood. I find it easiest to paint the entire piece of wood with White paint for this angel. Then transfer the face, and neck, paint them four times with Fleshtone. Extend the Fleshtone into the hair area. This will help in the end as you will not have any areas showing background paint. Transfer the outline of the dress and sleeves. Let’s begin. Transfer the features of the face. Line with Burnt Sienna. Float Burnt sienna down each side of the face and then under the hair line. Wet the area across the eyes and the float a flip flop of Burnt sienna in this area including the eye sockets. Gently mop with a pouncing motion. This is the darkest part of the face and immediately sits the eyes into that plane of the face. Float Burnt Sienna across the base of the nose. Float under each eyebrow and down along the left side of the nose. Float only to the corner of the eye on the right side. Float under the lip and a bit on the chin. Float heavily under the chin. Float in the inner ear with the Burnt sienna. The Marionette lines around the mouth. Wet your board and very carefully line these lines. Mop up and down if necessary. Allow to dry, if you need to darken repeat. Wet the cheeks and then carefully walk Berry Red from the outside to the inside of the cheeks, pounce gently with your mop. Paint the lips with a mixture of Berry Red, Fleshtone and a tiny touch of Burnt Sienna. Paint the inner mouth with Black and teeth with White. Line the little smile lines first with Burnt Sienna and if you are happy with them, then with Black. Deepen the nostril holes and the sides of the nose with Black . Paint the inner eyes with White. Transfer the iris and paint with Payne’s Gray plus White. Paint the reflected light with this value plus more white. It is from nine to six on the right side of the iris. Paint the pupil Black. Float Payne’s Gray under the lash line across the entire eyeball. Line the outer edges of the iris with Black. Add a highlight of White at 2o’clock on the edge of the pupil. Line the lashes gently with Black, if you are happy with them, deepen the color. Highlight the face in the following areas with White, on the forehead, on the cheeks, between the eyes and the eyebrows, on the on the nose, under the right side marionette line, under each edge of the mouth, and on the chin. You may want to wet the areas, float the white and then mop it, doing this several times. The Dress. Paint the bodice of the dress with Winter Blue. Use a stencil to place the design on the dress with White. Float Payne’s Gray on the bodice against the sleeves and the arms. Define the wrinkles on the sleeves first with Winter Blue and then with Payne’s gray. Deepen the creases in the cuff with more Payne’s Gray. Transfer the arms. Paint four times with Fleshtone. Add all the shadows and lines with Burnt sienna. Deepen the finger lines with Dark Chocolate. Highlights are White. Transfer the heart. Paint it Baby Pink and dry brush the center with white. The little “X” are Baby Pink. Paint the ribbon at the top of the dress with Baby Pink. Shade the outer edges with Royal Fuchsia. Paint up against the body now with Midnite Blue. The Wings. This is the method. With a large flat brush dressed in white, pull the center line of the wings. Reload with White. Pull large comma strokes from the tip of the wing to behind the hair with white. Try to be loose with the technique it will be must easier. When they are dry, float Royal Fuchsia, Turquoise and some yellow into the wings. Practice the wings before going to your painted piece. The Hair Paint he base coat of the hair with Honey Brown. Most likely it needs to be done two or three times. Using my Oval Feather Brush dressed in Burnt Sienna place the direction of the hair on the top of the head and down the sides of the face. Float very heavily with Dark Chocolate on the hair down each side of the face and on the top of the shoulders, this sets the hair behind the dress. Use this color under the area of the hair that has been pulled back. Redress the brush with Taffy Cream and begin to add the highlights to the hair, do not obliterate the darker colors. Finally use White to bring up the final highlights. I then use my Scharff fine Liner to add lots of curls. I use every value of color that I used in the body of the hair. The halo is first painted with Antique gold. Then I bring up the colors with Yellow Light and then with White. The ribbon is Baby Pink Add shading with Royal Fuchsia and then with White. Fish with your favorite Varnish! If you enjoy oils, spray with Krylon 1311 or place an acrylic glazing medium over your piece. Dress your brush in Resngel and Cad Red medium and glaze the cheeks, redress with gel and burnt sienna and deepen everywhere you floated with Burnt Sienna. Finally dress the brush with White and add the highlights on the face. Thanks! |
